Do you allow your child to wear scary Halloween costumes for kids? While, Halloween is traditionally about scaring people, ghosts, and ghouls. I want my kids to remember Halloween as a not-so-scary holiday and I don’t want them, scary other kids, while out trick or treating. I’d rather them find something to wear from their closet or I’ll look for a cheap costume.
While, I don’t want my kids to be afraid of scary movies when they get older but as young kids, they shouldn’t dress up in scary Halloween costumes for kids. Let’s take a look at some costumes that are a hard pass for my family to wear.
Annabelle
I never heard of Annabelle until I read my friend’s post about this being one costume that she would never let her teenage daughter wear. I have to agree that Annabelle isn’t a family-friendly costume and it sparked the whole post on what scary Halloween costumes for kids that they shouldn’t wear. But you can purchase it here (aff link) if you desire.
Zombie With Bloody Axe
This costume reminds me of something that you would see on the Walking Dead or in a scary movie. I wouldn’t want my young child to dress up as this for Halloween but if you don’t mind you can purchase it here (aff link).
Grim Reaper
Swamp Skeleton
This is another costume that screams The Walking Dead or another horror movie. While, this costume maybe fun for your child, it is a hard no for mine. You can purchase the costume here (aff link).
Sinister Jester
Sinister Jester is known for going around killing people in the movie Funny Man. His crimes can be mild to extermely gory. There is no way I would ever let my child wear this one for Halloween. What about you? But you can purchase it here (aff link).
Werewolf
The werewolf isn’t the worst scary Halloween costume for kids but it is still a bit over the top to wear a family-friendly event. You can purchase the costume here (aff link).
Seed Eater – The Rake Monster
The Rake Monster originally appeared on the internet as the Creepypasta. He attacks humans for no reason at all. This creature is similar to the monster found in the movie Alien. A creepy costume like this is off the table if my kids wanted to wear it for Halloween. But you can purchase it here (aff link).
Killer Clown
Clowns are creepy enough without looking scary. Would you let your child dress up as this killer clown? For me, it is a hard no. But you can purchase this costume here (aff link).
Flower Monster
The Flower monster looks super creepy and it isn’t a costume that I would allow my kids to wear. But you can purchase it here (aff link).
Carnevil Clown Aka Pennywise
This creepy clown gets a 5 out of 10 for scariness. But this costume still wouldn’t be allowed to a family-friendly event if my kids wanted to wear it. But you can purchase it here (aff link).
Scream
After the hit movie Scream came out in 1996, everyone wanted to be the killer running around campus trying to kill Syndney Prescott. While, this isn’t the scariest costume of the bunch, dressing up as a murder doesn’t appeal to me as a family friendly costume. But you can purchase it here (aff link).
Eyeless Jack
Eyeless Jack is the titular main antagonist of the Creepypasta of the same name. He is an enigmatic stalker and killer who breaks into the protagonists’ home to torment and steal from them. This is a villan that I wouldn’t want my kids dressing up for on Halloween. But you can purchse the costume here (aff link).
Michael Myers
If you watch TIK TOK around Halloween, you can see several accounts dressing up as Michael Myers. I tend to love the skits but this costume isn’t one that a child should were to a family-friendly event. But you can purchase the mask here and the jumpsuit here (aff link).
Halloween is coming up and I have shared a bunch of family friendly costumes for kids already on here. You can find Disney Princess, Paw Patrol, Fortnite, and probably a few more ideas before Halloween gets here. These Scary Halloween costumes for kids should be used for Cosplay only and not for Halloween in my opinion. They aren’t something that you would want your child wearing to a truck or treat or a family-friendly Halloween party.
I appreciate your feelings on this, but we always let the kids imaginations go for Halloween. They could choose whatever (within reason of course) they wanted to be and we usually made them at home.
My goodness the Sinister Jester would scary me so badly if I saw him peaking my corner! Hahaha.
I don’t really have any off limit costumes when it comes to Halloween. I let my daughters decide what they’d like to be. For me it doesn’t matter whether it’s scary or not, just that my kids are happy with who they picked out to be.
I so agree with skipping these costumes. They creep me out.
I am absolutely agree on not letting my teens wear this! Specially those who kill on movies.
Girl. You nailed this post. Yes, Halloween is supposed to be spooky bu there is no need for out-and-out gruesome.
Our kids never really went for the super scary or gory costumes.
Geeze Louise, a handful of these costumes were genuinely creepy!
Well it’s that time of year again. I can’t believe it’s almost October!!
I agree, those are way too scary. My son’s costumes before were adorable. 🙂
These Halloween costumes are really scary! I am agree that it’s better not to scary other kids. Halloween it’s always a fun holiday fo us!
