Meditation

Mediation is the art of training your mind to create a state of consciousness that encourages relaxation. It is a widely used technique that is used to treat a wide variety of ailments including anxiety. There are several different types of meditation and each method isn’t created equal.

  • Mindfulness meditation
  • Mantra-based meditation
  • Zen meditation
  • Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy

Each of these techniques has unique methods but they have the ultimate goal to help you create a sense of relaxation, change thought patterns, and to help you get a grip on your anxieties and fears. Meditation requires patience. For it to be effective it is something that needs to be practiced on a regular basis to be effective.

Exercise

Stress and busyness can easily take over if you aren’t paying attention to your mental health. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and it is proven to improve symptoms of anxiety and depression. Don’t worry you don’t have to spend hours in the gym or outside in the heat. You can simply enjoy a brisk 10 to 15-minute walk and still reap the benefits. As you exercise, your body naturally releases endorphins that make you feel better. Plus, regular exercise can help you lose weight too.

Essential Oils

Aromatherapy has gained popularity over the last several years. We were a bit skeptical about the role of using essential oils to treat common conditions including anxiety. As we have added to our essential oil collection, we have discovered that using a diffuser helps release essential oils into the air safely. As the smell travels through your nasal passages, the message is sent to the limbic system which acts like the king of your emotions. Sniffing essential oils can trigger an emotional response in the limbic system and it helps create happy feelings or trigger good memories. There are several essential oils that can be used to help manage symptoms of anxiety.

Note: Please find a course on essential oil safety before using essential oils on the skin or ingesting them. Diffusing essential oils are relatively safe. However, it is important to wash your hands after you have added essential oils to your diffuser. Depending on the brand of essential oils, you don’t need to add more than a few drops to your diffuser. Adding too much essential oil can be overpowering.

Therapy

Most people tend to shy away from searching for a therapist because of the stigma attached to going to talk to someone else about your problems. Therapy is more than just discussing your problems. Therapists are trained to help give you the tools to cope with your situation called coping mechanisms.

Each person has their own way of handling life’s ups and downs. However, when you are feeling anxious oftentimes people forget to rely on coping mechanisms. Other times,  a therapist can help develop new coping mechanisms that are targeted to help manage symptoms of anxiety.

A therapist can also recommend medication if they feel that you really need it. Anxiety is a mental illness and sometimes you might need extra help. Don’t wait until it is too late to get help! The longer you put it off the more problems anxiety can cause.

Nutrition

Nutrition is a huge factor in today’s society. We are exposed to heavy preservatives and chemicals in our food as our lifestyles have changed. Many families tend to cook easy meals that are over-processed or they are going through the drive-thru on their way home. A diet filled with too many over-processed foods or fast food isn’t healthy.

When your body is lacking the proper nutrients, it simply can’t function properly. Your body is similar to a car engine. You wouldn’t put diesel fuel into a car that requires unleaded gasoline because it wouldn’t run properly. Therefore, if you continue to give your body junk, it will start performing sluggishly until you correct the root problem.

Start eating a diet of healthy grains, vegetables, and fruits and you will begin to notice your overall health improving. Try these foods that can help fight anxiety naturally.

Devote Plenty of Time to Sleep

Many people tend to skimp on sleep due to their crazy schedules. Experts recommend that you get a full 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. Sleep deprivation can cause a wide array of health problems including anxiety. Try setting a consistent sleep schedule and stick to it for 30 days. At the end of the 30 days, access your anxiety symptoms again.

Journal

Do you remember how writing your most intimate thoughts down in a journal felt? Writing down your thoughts and feelings despite how crazy they might have been can be instant anxiety relief for the soul. Bottling up those thoughts and feelings can be taxing and cause symptoms of anxiety. As you are journaling, don’t forget to share a few things that you are grateful for as well! It will help keep your entries in your journal balanced so that it isn’t filled with only negative thoughts and feelings.

Anxiety can be very debilitating and make everyday tasks seem overwhelming. While it is normal to feel anxious from time to time, remember it is not normal to be anxious on a regular basis. It is important to seek help from a trained professional if these natural anxiety remedies don’t help improve your symptoms in a few weeks.

  1. I used to have terrible anxiety. To the point I didn’t want to get in the car with someone. But, after realizing my body was screaming at me because I wasn’t eating correctly and finding out that my B12 was extremely low, my life changed. Started eating better and got my B12 to normal and all that anxiety is gone. I also stopped drinking basically all-day caffeine in coffee and sodas too. Your body knows when its in trouble.
