Technology is Up to Date

Dentistry has seen some major changes over the last 25 years. There are numerous digital technologies that have greatly improved the quality of care. This is significant in terms of dental x-rays, which are very important when it comes to detecting any major dental health issues. However, x-ray radiation in large doses may contribute to oral cancer. A dentist that uses digital x-rays can help reduce exposure to radiation by up to 90 percent.

Training and Education

Since the dental industry is always changing, it is important to make sure that the dentist that you choose is keeping up with the advances in administrative and clinical technology. Ongoing training and education are important in the dental field. It is important to make sure that the dental office that you choose is regularly updating its skills in order to meet the expectations and needs of the dental industry as well as the patient’s expectations. This is super important when choosing a dentist.

Responsive and Friendly Staff

When it comes to visiting the dentist, most people do not rank it high on their list of favorite things to do and others experience anxiety and fear at the dentist. While it may not be possible to know exactly what type of treatment that you are going to need before you go to the office, you can learn about the staff experience by choosing a dental office that provides pleasant interactions, an easy-to-use appointment process, and a billing process that will accept most forms of insurance.

Emergency Hours

Along with a friendly staff, you are going to want to make sure that the dental office that you choose offers emergency hours. After all, you never know when you might come down with intense tooth pain that you need taken care of as soon as possible. Not only should you consider an office that offers emergency hours, but also one that offers hours that fit into your schedule. Working full-time can make it difficult to take time off for an appointment. Find an office that offers later appointments that will work with your particular scheduling needs.

An Office that is Clean

When you go to a restaurant you expect the restrooms to be clean. In fact, many people think that how clean the bathroom is, indicates how clean the kitchen is. This can be said for a dental office as well. If the lobby and other areas are modern and clean, chances are the equipment and care will be as well.

Public Service

Another good indication that you have found a quality dentist is their interest in serving others. Many of the best dentists will commit to doing good within their communities. This can come in many forms such as donating free dentistry to those that are in need or raising money for different causes.

The dental landscape is evolving and many dentists are using these changes as a way to spend more time with each of their patients and partner with support organizations. These dental organizations can help to provide advanced training and technology that focus on the business aspects of the office so that the dentist can focus on delivering better patient care.

  1. Thank you for this. During COVID my hygienists left and he was the best! I hated to have to find another one because the one I use now isn’t really for me. We don’t have much to choose from in our area that works with our insurance.

  2. The first thing I look for when considering a new dentist or healthcare provider is online reviews from other patients. If those are good, I move on to pretty much everything on this list.

  3. Yup, I always make sure it’s clean and we feel comfortable inside. And if they take our insurance. Some don’t but they won’t always be up front and let you know unless you ask.

  4. My last dentist I swear just wanted to make money. Told me I needed veneers. Got a second opinion who said nope! I now go to that dentist. He’s more trustworthy!
